Filipinos in Berlin invited to join a Cheering Squad for Paraplegic Filipino Participant at the Berlin Marathon

Berlin – The 42nd BMW Berlin Marathon will be held on Sunday, 27 September 2015.  The fastest marathon course in the world consistently draws in the best athletes from all over the globe.  This year, a paraplegic Filipino participant, Mr. Romel Palis will be joining the race.
To rally and show support to Romel, members of the Filipino community in Berlin are organizing a Cheering Squad and they would like to invite others to join them.
There are several categories for the marathon, Mr. Palis will only participate in the Handbikers Category which begins at 8:43 a.m.  The meeting point for those who want to cheer for him as he starts the race will be at the Brandenburg Gate, outside Starbucks at 0830H.  For those interested to rally him on as he nears the finish line will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the same place.
Look for Ms. Myrna von Keyserlingk, Dr. Jingky Lozano-Kühne or a group with Philippine flags.  Spectators are reminded that the race’s start and finish areas are only open to official marathon participants.
Mr. Palis’ race number is H143.    He will be wearing a long sleeve neon yellow green shirt with a Philippine flag on the shoulder area.

Those who wish to cheer for Mr. Palis along his race route may be guided by this MAP.

Mr. Palis graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1985 and served for the Armed Forces of the Philippines until a fateful incident in January 1989 when he was fired at in Camp Nakar, Quezon Province. He was hit in the spine and became permanently paralyzed from the waist down.  He has since worked on his rehabilitation and pursued further studies at Columbia University and Baruch University in New York, graduating Magna Cum Laude.  He is currently based in New York with his wife Mayvelyn.
